BAOULE (Ivory Coast)

GOURO (Ivory Coast)

It is the Dioulas weavers that introduced the loom in numerous regions of Ivory Coast, in particular at the Senoufos, the Gouros and the Baoulés. This handloom, of rudimentary aspect but technically infallible, permits to weave strips of cloth of about ten width centimeters of which sons of chain, before crossing sons of plot tightened by the comb of the weaver, pass in one or several smooth maintained by pretty pulleys decorated of human heads or zoomorpheses. Strips are sewn then together to form loincloths used like clothes.
